She was known as the greatest rival of Coco Chanel and is famous for her vivid imagination, which she incorporated in all her designs and created pieces, so bold and creative for her time, that the whole world was stunned. She was the first designer to use bright colors in Haute Couture, but hot pink was her signature color. Some of her most famous designs (the Lobster Dress, the Skeleton Dress and the Shoe Hat), which are iconic even today, she created in collaboration with her close friend Salvador Dali.
Elsa Schiaparelli was born in Rome, later she moved to London where she met her husband and together they moved to NY. Soon after though, her husband left her and she found herself as a single mother in NY where she met some friends and together they decided to move to Paris. In Paris she first started out as a knitwear brand but her talent and creativity soon brought her worldwide success and she opened the Elsa Schiaparelli Haute Couture Salons at Place Vendome, where the brand is still located today.
Enjoy!
